We’re all past the point of arguing whether or not social media will be a game-changer. This week’s round-up includes ways that social media is changing the game for good– from how it can help you land your dream job, to Facebook’s increasing awareness of its own role in responding to crises, to something as simple as how it can help you choose the perfect gifts for friends and family this holiday season.
How To Use Social Media To Find The Perfect Gift For Anyone
Facebook Offers Suicide Chat Hotline
“With the feature, friends can report suspected suicidal behavior by clicking a button next to any piece of content on Facebook. Users select “suicidal content” under the harmful behavior menu, prompting Facebook to email a direct link to the distressed user for a private online chat with a crisis representative from the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline…The concerned friends, whose reporting of the behavior will be anonymous, will also receive a message that the issue is being addressed, according to Facebook, which will offer the tool for users in the U.S. and Canada.”
Social Job Search – Can Facebook Get You a Job?
“A new breed of work searchers – call them ‘social job seekers’ – are utilizing the big social networks in ingenious ways in order to find their dream jobs, and so far they’re having great success. It turns out, the more you use a social network, the more likely you are to find a job through the service: 1 in 4 ‘super social seekers’ successfully nets work through Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn.”
